Analyzing Retail Sales in Airport Terminals

>> see Concessionaire Analyzer+ Presentation
Shireburn Software’s Concessionaire Analyzer+ (CA+) is a software solution that allows airport terminal operators to analyse the retail activities of concessionaires at a time when they increasingly rely on retail spaces for the maximisation of revenue.

The Shireburn CA+ allows sales data from concessionaires to be centrally collected, analysed, reported on, audited, used for invoicing of revenue-sharing concessions and be the subject of business intelligence reporting. CA+ enables the analysis of the business intelligence regarding retail activities in the airport allowing the terminal management to assess values of spend by carrier, route, day of week, time of day, location in retail space etc. This invaluable assessment of spend enables the terminal operator to better understand retail flows and to undertake more effective negotiations with both carriers and concessionaires and to optimise the retail mix within the airport. CA+ thus acts as the central intelligence of all retailing activity in the airport terminal.

Concessionaires' sales data is able to be fed into the CA+ data warehouse using either of 2 methods or a hybrid of the two as follows:
  • via interfaces from concessionaires' POS solutions - concessionaires continue to use their existing POS solution and export their sales data into a predefined file format supported by CA+. Uploading of data to CA+ can be effected either manually via the CA+ Concessionaires' web portal or via directly integration using web services.
  • via Airport POS - terminal operators have the option of deploying Airport POS, a POS solution designed specifically for the airport retailing environment including integration points with Flight Information Data Systems (FIDS) and airport related functionality. >> read more about Airport-POS.

Uploading Concessionaires' Sales Data - Once concessionaires export their sales data into a predefined file format supported by CA+, they are able to either manually upload the file into the CA+ data warehouse via:

    • the CA+ concessionaires' web portal
    • automatically by making a call to a web services from within their own back-end inventory application
    • via Microsoft Excel

One central interface used by all concessionaires ensures a standard method of operation and the delegation of uploading of data to the concessionaires.

Concessionaires' Report - concessionaires are able to obtain reports of their performance via the Concessionaires' web portal including their share of the retail sales in the airport (slice of the pie), passenger numbers etc.

Airport Operator's Reporting - the provision of a Business Intelligence platform for the provision of detailed reporting and analysis of concessionaires' operations by the terminal operator provides the airport terminal operator with a wealth of essential information to allow them to maximise the retail operations within the terminal and increase the value of the retail sector to the terminal's revenue streams.

Shireburn’s Concessionaire Analyzer+ offers the following functionality:

    • The deployment of a centralised secure data warehouse to receive details of all transactions from all concessions allowing:
      • Billing for concession fees by the operator
      • Analysis of sales performance by concession, by airline, by flight, by time of day etc.
    • Extensive reporting
    • Optional deployment of standard POS software in concessions supporting both product retail activities as well as catering establishments including integration with flight information systems
    • Security sub-system to allow granting of limited functionality to users of different access levels
    • Automated updating of POS sales and audit data to the CA+ data warehouse
    • Secure access by concessionaires to their data (and only their data) for reporting and data analysis
Implementation of Shireburn’s Concessionaire Analyzer+ provides stakeholders with the following benefits:
  • Monitoring of Sales - the ability of the airport operator to ensure monitoring of sales effected by the retail outlets, thus ensuring compliance with the concessionaire contracts.
  • Business Intelligence - the capability of the operator to analyse retail sales statistics by flight/route, airline, time of day, location etc. thus enabling better assessment of retail flows and improvements in negotiations with airlines and concessionaires
  • Higher Returns from Retail Operations – by obtaining a better understanding of retail patterns, terminal operators are able to better undertake promotions, plan gate positions to handle specific retail patterns and generally maximise the revenue of retailing operations both for the concessionaire and the terminal.
  • Customised Needs – the ability to implement specific requirements such as interfacing to flight information management systems into one standard system.
  • Easier Uploading & Downloading – the availability of various technical solutions for downloading of sales and audit information.
